From Classroom Leadership to Global Policy: Melody Marasha at the UNESCO 43rd General Conference
Teach For Zimbabwe is proud to celebrate the achievements of Melody Marasha, a distinguished alumna from the organisation’s 1st Cohort, who represented Zimbabwe at the UNESCO 43rd General Conference held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from 30 October to 13 November 2025.
The conference marked a historic moment for UNESCO, becoming the first General Conference in 40 years to be hosted outside Paris. Bringing together representatives from 194 Member States, the gathering focused on shaping the future of education, sustainable development, and ethics in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and neurotechnology.
Melody’s participation reflects the growing influence of Teach For Zimbabwe alumni within national, regional, and global spaces. Moving beyond the classroom into international policy dialogue, she contributed to conversations centered on inclusive education, youth empowerment, and the future of work.
Drawing from her experience working in Zimbabwe’s high-need schools, Melody brought an important grassroots perspective to discussions on how global education frameworks can be effectively implemented in underserved communities. Her contributions highlighted the realities faced by learners and educators in rural contexts while advocating for equitable and inclusive systems that leave no child behind.
She also participated in ministerial and policy discussions focused on equipping young people with 21st-century skills and ensuring African voices remain central in shaping global education and labor market priorities for 2030 and beyond.
For Teach For Zimbabwe, Melody’s achievement represents the long-term impact of developing leaders who not only transform classrooms but also influence systems. Her journey demonstrates how alumni continue to challenge inequities, contribute to policy conversations, and inspire future generations of fellows to see themselves as changemakers on a global stage.
As the conference concluded with a renewed commitment to inclusive and sustainable education systems, Melody continues to champion these ideals within Zimbabwe’s education sector, carrying forward the mission of creating lasting educational transformation.
