The Unstoppable Angela Dube: Climate Action in Practice

Climate action begins in schools, where leaders shape the next generation of environmental stewards. Through Teach For Zimbabwe’s Climate Education Leadership, fellows like Angela Dube are taking bold steps to restore ecosystems, empower learners, and inspire communities. In regions like Chiredzi, where soil erosion threatens livelihoods, Angela’s work demonstrates that lasting change can start at the school level.
Angela is not just a fellow; she is also the Vice President of the Fifth Cohort, exemplifying leadership, vision, and commitment to climate action.
“As a leader and environmentalist under Teach For Zimbabwe, I was inspired to start an indigenous forest project at my school after witnessing the severe levels of soil erosion in Chiredzi District. Seeing our land lose its strength pushed me to act—not just talk.”
Her initiative has already planted over 1,000 indigenous trees, helping to hold soil together, restore balance, and secure a better future for her learners.
“This is more than planting trees—it’s about protecting our land and safeguarding our future,” she explains.
Her impact extends far beyond reforestation. Angela has collaborated with Zim Climate Change as a fellow, Climate 1st (Chiredzi), The Climate Preneur, EMA, and the Africa Carbon Credit Market Forum, engaging in mentorship, climate advocacy, and environmental education initiatives. She has partnered with Hands of Trust for book donations, supported school nutrition gardens with seed donations, and distributed uniforms and other essential resources to learners.
In addition, Angela has volunteered extensively, including as Bulawayo Chapter Leader for Green Hut Trust in 2024, managing volunteers, and contributing to SOET projects. She has led school trips to Gonarezhou National Park to teach learners about conservation and has organized a week-long series focused on recycling, environmental education, and youth-led climate action, spotlighting young voices and innovation in sustainability.
“Through these projects, I hope to show that lasting change begins in our schools and communities. Every tree planted, every child engaged, and every volunteer empowered brings us closer to a sustainable future.”
Angela’s journey illustrates the power of action, collaboration, and leadership. As Vice President of the Fifth Cohort, she is a pioneering climate champion, unstoppable in her mission to protect Zimbabwe’s land and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.
