A Heartfelt Reflection: Empowering Others through Entrepreneurship

As a Teach For Zimbabwe fellow, I’ve always been driven by a passion to help others achieve their dreams. This journey has been nothing short of transformative, and I’m excited to share how it’s shaped my understanding of entrepreneurship and business.

At first, I viewed entrepreneurship and business primarily as a means to generate wealth. But through the fellowship, I came to see it differently—it’s really about identifying problems and finding innovative solutions. That shift in perspective has been invaluable. I’ve learned to approach business with a purpose-driven mindset, focusing on impact rather than just profit.

At Tsiga Primary School, I noticed a challenge many learners faced: overgrown hair that affected their neatness and self-esteem. So I invested in electronic hair clippers and began offering affordable haircuts to learners. This small initiative has had a meaningful impact:

Cost savings: Learners no longer need to travel to town for haircuts, which saves both time and money.

Breaking stereotypes: By providing haircuts to both boys and girls, we’ve helped challenge the stereotype that barbers are only for men.

Empowering the community: We’ve trained local community members in haircutting, equipping them with a sustainable skill to navigate a difficult economy.

This initiative has also become a powerful platform to uplift girls and young women. By showing them that they, too, can excel in entrepreneurship and problem-solving, we’re helping build their confidence and potential. Our goal is to continue nurturing their skills and ideas—so they can become successful women who lead positive change in their communities.

I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to make a difference. And I believe that with the right support, we can do even more. I’m looking for partners who share our vision of empowering others through entrepreneurship and education. Together, we can create a brighter future for our learners and our communities.

Join us in our mission to empower girls and communities through entrepreneurship and education. Let’s work together to create lasting impact.
