Mutoko schools career fair, a midnight spark

Teach for Zimbabwe, in partnership with DHL, recently organized a transformative career fair at Mutoko Central High School. The life changing career fair is held under the auspices of the global Go Teach initiative whose generous mandate is to promote education among needy communities. The event, graced by esteemed guests District Schools Inspector Mr. Katuka and DHL Managing Director Mrs. Katsukunya, aimed to empower rural youths by providing essential career guidance.

With 10 schools in attendance and over 250 students converging at the venue, the career fair proved to be a pivotal moment for these young minds as it inculcates employability skills for youths who lack exposure and are usually outrun by their elite counterparts. The students were immersed in a variety of crucial career topics including CV writing, law, development studies, accounting, medicine, physiology, and personal development.

One of the most important highlights of the event was the availability of student doctors from Zimbabwe Medical Students Association(ZIMSA) who expressed their heatfelt desire to enlighten the students on the dots around the field of medicine, which many students were eager to understand.
Schools that attended include Munashe Private High School, Bondamakara High, Nyamuzuwe High, Nyadire High, Mutoko Central, Mutoko Government, Mutoko High , Nyamuzuwe High e.tc.

The presence of Mr. Katuka and Mrs. Katsukunya added prestige to the event as they shared valuable insights with the eager participants. Mr Katuka said that it vital for parents and student to understand these issues of career, he gave an example of his son who dumped his accounting profession for acting, adding that he flew to the USA and is doing wonders because he rediscovered his career path. For many of these rural youths who lack exposure to diverse career paths, this fair was a life-changing opportunity to broaden their horizons and set ambitious goals for their futures.

The collaborative efforts of Teach for Zimbabwe and DHL not only provided practical knowledge but also instilled a sense of hope and ambition in the hearts of these students. As they absorbed information on various professions and honed their skills through interactive sessions, the attendees left the fair inspired and equipped with newfound confidence to pursue their dreams.

Overall, the Teach for Zimbabwe and DHL career fair stands as a beacon of empowerment for rural youth, bridging the gap between aspiration and opportunity in an environment where such resources are often scarce.
