Donation of computers to Kowo Primary School

Educating the rural child is one of the most important ingredients in preparing a better future for all. Providing with modern learning tools like computers puts education at the epicenter of global empowerment agenda. Whilst, rural learners in rural Zimbabwe are grappling with technological blackout and constant culture of marginal learning, the Teach for Zimbabwe initiative in partnership with DHL Global has opened a new page for children at Kowo primary school by sourcing 28 computers from DHL Global.

The genesis of computer learning at Kowo Primary School began with a decision made by the School Development Committee to motivate parents to pay $20 for each child in order to buy the first batch of computers. School Headmistress, Mrs. Maguze, played an instrumental role in leading the process in pursuit of using morden technology to enhance education for the underprivileged children. With the support of a partner organization, Teach For Zimbabwe, the school acquired two teachers who helped the children gain knowledge in computers literacy. As a result, there was a noticeable improvement in the students’ pass rates, with one child even scoring 6 units at grade 7. This success has led to a significant rise in the school’s overall performance within the district.

During the hand over ceremony, Dr. Siwela, the Chief Executive Officer for Teach for Zimbabwe, expressed gratitude for the unique opportunity given to Kowo Primary School out of over 110 schools where TFZ operates. The goal of Teach For Zimbabwe is to ensure that all school children have access to computers in order to connect rural students to the global village. Dr. Siwela also thanked the DHL team for their generous support.

Mr. Zinhanzva, who served as the Guest of Honor from Mutoko District Schools Inspector, thanked DHL for their support of Kowo Primary through Teach for Zimbabwe and commended TFZ for their dedication in mobilizing resources for schools in Mutoko.

The SDC chairperson, Mr. Blessing Chakomoka, expressed his joy and appreciation for Dr. Siwela’s efforts in bringing computer technology to Kowo Primary School. The event featured traditional dances, music, and poems performed by the children as they expressed their gratitude for TFZ’s generous support.

Supporting rural children with computers has various benefits on their education such as providing access to educational resources, developing digital literacy skills essential for success in today’s world, and bridging the digital divide between urban and rural areas in Zimbabwe.
