Youth Capacitation Workshop

Kuyenda Collective is an Education Out Loud (EOL) OC3 grantee operating in Malawi, Mozambique,Tanzania and Zimbabwe with the theme ‘addressing the learning crisis through systems strengthening.’ Led by Global Integrity an international development organization, the Kuyenda Collective members include national partners Forum for African Women Educationalists[FAWEMA] (Malawi), Centro de Aprendizagem eCapacitação da Sociedade Civil [CESC] (Mozambique);Policy Forum (Tanzania) and Teach for Zimbabwe(Zimbabwe) and transnational partners Public Services Accountability Monitor (PSAM) and Stimulus Africa.

The Kuyenda Collective facilitated the above mentioned workshop which was held at Cresta Jameson, in Harare from Tuesday the 28th to Thursday the 30th of March 2023. The guest speaker for the workshop was Luyanda from PSAM, South Africa. The overall goal of the workshop was to capacitate the Rural Youth Collectives (RYCs) so that they may be able to ask the right questions when they have built their cases and to train the RYCs on how to identify educational issues in their respective communities that need to be advocated for at national level and how to advocate for quality education and the importance of Education Management Information Systems (EMIS) in case building. The workshop gave insight into the importance of studying the Zimbabwean Education Sector Strategic Plan, social accountability, and the importance of digital storytelling to provide evidence of the case that needs to be advocated for.  The Youth Capacitation Workshop trained 18 RYCs on transnational advocacy and the art of digital storytelling for advocacy. The training included the following topics on transnational advocacy:

  • The right to education
  • Education Commitments
  • Funding the Education Sector
  • Educational Management Information System
  • Zimbabwe Education System
  • Social Accountability

The following topics were discussed on digital storytelling:

  • What makes a good story
  • Storytelling mediums
  • How to take good pictures and videos
  • Writing
  • Important things to remember.
