Megi Chetemu – 2nd Cohort

It has come to the attention of the fellow that a lot of youth in Sengwe Community (Chiredzi District) are unemployed and have stopped going to school because of different reasons, especially girls. Parents are also failing to pay school fees for their children which affects the future of the next generation. The fellow, therefore, introduced a project which deals with training youth and community members in making detergents and baking. To date, 25 members have been trained so far and out of 25, 16 have graduated. Out of the 16 graduates, 5 young girls are from WoCaDi Group.  WoCaDi (Women Can Do It) is a group founded by the fellow which is meant to empower young girls who have been affected by early marriages, early pregnancies and financial constraints. After received training from an organisation called PAYN (Progressive African Youth Network) I decided to train the community members to produce detergents to sell as well as for personal use. Members will be trained to make 20 products, these include floor polish, bubble bath, dish washing liquid, dilute-to-taste drink, ice cream, yoghurt, rat poison, cockroach poison, toilet dip, toilet cleaner, bleach, fabric softener, sanitizer, washing powder, body lotion and body perfume.

Fantastic work indeed. Helping adolescent girls in Malipati through empowerment projects is the only way to economic emancipation for these young girls. Thanks so much for this innovative idea
