Bothwell Sibanda – Alumnus

The biggest challenge in the Citrus Community is lack of electricity in the house-holds of the sugar-cane farmers. As such, electricity is only available to the Citrus Primary School premises and the teacher’s accommodations. This therefore means that students do not have access to lights that can assist them to do their school work after school.

Therefore, the Leadership Fellow is positively impacting the lives of Ordinary Level Students in the Citrus Community. The Leadership Fellow assist the Citrus Community by facilitating them with study time from 8pm to 10pm at the Citrus Primary School Classrooms every weekday. The initiative is going well, as some students’ parents have personally come and give their gesture of gratitude to the Fellow for sacrificing his time to supervise the students as they are preparing their final O level Examinations. Mr Sibanda has supervised students from Hippo Valley High School, Ezekiel Guti High School and Chiredzi High School. Mr Sibanda has also assisted some Grade 7 students to learn ICT at night because their parents had requested that the Fellow should assist. The Fellow did not request any form of financial input from the parents but the Fellow assisted out of passion.

One of the notable conundrums that faces people in the Citrus Community is lack of money to pay for the school tuitions. Therefore, to compensate that, most parents are more than willing to sale their livestock such as goats, sheep and cattle so that they can raise enough money that is required to pay for the school tuition.

The Leadership Fellow is often approached by the members of the Citrus Community to buy their livestock especially from Chilonga Village. The Fellow will buy these livestock at a reasonable price and both parties will benefit.  In December (2021) Mr Sibanda bought these two (2) goats from a parent that was struggling to find money to pay the school tuition of her four children that learn at Citrus Primary School.  The Fellow has bought so many goats from school parents that are looking forward to sell their livestock so that they can have money to buy what is required. The following are some of the goats that the Leadership Fellow has bought for re-sale.
